*ピサの斜塔を眺めながらゆったりと過ごした贅沢な時間
イギリス学部留学の春休み、イタリアを巡る旅をした。どの街に行くかを計画する時、ピサの斜塔は絶対に見たかったのでピサにも立ち寄ることにした。ピサはフィレンツェから車で1時間程の位置にあるので、フィレンツェから日帰りで行く人も多いが、せっかくなので私はピサで一泊することにした。
ピサはフィレンツェと比べると小さな街で見所も多くはないので、観光のメインは斜塔があるピサ大聖堂が中心だった。ピサの斜塔では皆お決まりの斜塔を支えるポーズで写真を撮っていた。私も撮ってもらったが、当時はフィルムカメラで現像しないと結果がわからない。旅行後に現像してみると残念ながら上手くは撮れていなかった。今なら撮った写真はその場で確認できるので、あらためて時代の進化は凄いと思う。
ピサの斜塔は斜めに立っていて確かにインパクトがあったが、私はその広場全体の雰囲気がとても美しくて好きだった。世界遺産にはピサのドゥオモ広場として登録されていて、洗礼堂、大聖堂、鐘楼、墓所回廊で構成されている。ピサの斜塔はその中の鐘楼のことである。観光客は鐘楼を観光して足早に帰っていったが、私はピサで一泊するので急ぐ理由もなかった。美しい広場に座り、斜塔と慌ただしく過ぎ行く人々を眺めながら、ゆったりと午後の時間を過ごした。皆が通り過ぎる街で、美しい景色を見ながらゆったりと時間を過ごせたのはとても贅沢なことだったと思う。
*Luxurious Moments Admiring the Leaning Tower of Pisa
During the spring break of my undergraduate studies in the UK, I embarked on a journey across Italy. When planning which cities to visit, the Leaning Tower of Pisa was a must-see, prompting me to make a stop in Pisa. Although many opt for a day trip from Florence, just an hour away, I decided to indulge in an overnight stay in Pisa.
Compared to Florence, Pisa is a smaller city with fewer attractions, making the iconic Pisa Cathedral, home to the Leaning Tower, the main highlight. Visitors at the Leaning Tower were all striking the customary pose, capturing the moment on film. In those days, with a film camera, results remained unknown until development. Reflecting on it later, my photos didn't turn out as expected. Today, the ability to instantly view captured images showcases the incredible evolution of technology.
While the Leaning Tower undeniably left an impression, I found the entire square's ambiance in Pisa remarkably beautiful. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as Piazza dei Miracoli, it comprises the Baptistry, Cathedral, Bell Tower (Leaning Tower), and Camposanto Monumentale. Most tourists hurriedly explored the Bell Tower, but with an overnight stay, I had no reason to rush. Sitting in the picturesque square, leisurely observing the leaning tower and the bustling passersby, I spent a relaxed afternoon. Enjoying such luxury amidst a city's hustle and bustle, surrounded by a beautiful panorama, was truly a lavish experience.
