さて、ミラノは私もイギリス留学時代の春休みに訪れた。あの時も真冬でとても寒かったのを覚えている。ミラノといえばミラノ大聖堂（ドゥオーモ）が有名だ。印象的でミラノを象徴する建築なので、テレビでもアナウンサーがドゥオーモの前から中継をしているのを良く見かける。テレビだと正面しか映らないが、ドゥオーモは近距離で見ると更に美しい。特におすすめは屋上のテラスからの景色だ。私は高い所には登りたくなる性分なので、当時も当然ドゥオーモには登ってみた。屋上からは尖塔の彫刻が間近に見られてとても満足したのを覚えている。遥か昔の記憶を思い出しながら、しばらくはミラノの美しい街並みをテレビで楽しみたい。
