私は宇宙が大好きで星空案内人の資格を持っているので、せっかく沖縄に行くなら都会から離れた綺麗な星空を見たいと思っていた。探してみると那覇では街明かりが明るくて難しいが、中部であれば綺麗な星空が見えるようだった。そこで中部まで足を伸ばすことにして、星空案内と星空写真がセットになったツアーを予約した。
当たり前のことだが、雲があると星空は見えない。だから、天気予報が晴れでも雲が所々にかかっていたり、薄い雲が広がっていると美しい星空は見えないのだ。そういう点ではツアーの日に美しい星空が見えるかどうかはかなり運にも左右される。今回私が訪れた時は台風の影響もあって飛び立つ数日前までは雨の予報だった。そして、到着した日もかなり雨が降っていた。しかし、翌日の天気予報は朝は曇りだが夜は晴れになっていて、本当に晴れるのだろうかと半ば諦めモードだった。ただ、流石、日本の天気予報の精度は素晴らしい。本当に晴れたのだ。しかも雨の後で空が澄んでいたこともあり、星空指数は100%！満天の星空を楽しむことができた。星空ツアーについては次の記事で詳しく書いてみようと思う。

I love the universe and am a certified stargazing guide, so whenever I travel to Okinawa, I want to get away from the city and enjoy its beautiful night sky. I found that the bright lights of Naha make stargazing difficult, while the central part of the island offers much darker skies. So I decided to travel there and booked a tour that combined a stargazing guide with night-sky photography.
Of course, clouds can completely change the experience. Even if the forecast says it will be clear, scattered clouds or a thin layer of cloud can hide the stars. In that sense, seeing a beautiful night sky on a tour depends quite a bit on luck.
This time, a typhoon meant rain was forecast until just a few days before my flight. It was also raining heavily when I arrived. However, the forecast for the following night said it would clear up. I wasn't very optimistic, but amazingly, the forecast was right. The sky cleared completely, and after the rain, the air was wonderfully clear. The stargazing forecast reached 100%! I was able to enjoy a spectacular sky full of stars.
