大阪・関西万博が閉幕した。最初は色々と批判をされることもあったが後半は来場者数も伸び、全体としては成功したと言えるのではないだろうか。私も10月に入ってから訪れたが、駆け込み万博で平日でも人が溢れていた。並ぶことすら制限されたパビリオンも多かったが、お目当てのフランス館には入館することができた。人が少なければ入りたいパビリオンも色々あったので残念だった。
さて、万博は多数の国が参加をしていて、大阪・関西万博は158の国と地域が参加をしているそうだ。私が一番感じるのは、それだけの国々の文化があの大屋根リングのエリアに集まっていることの素晴らしさだ。万国博覧会と言われる所以でもあるが、万博はまさに多様性を体現している場所だ。最近は表面的には多様性を声高らかに叫びながら、一方で自分と違う考えの人達を排除するなど世界は分断が進んでいる。そして、SNSなどは自身の興味のあるものだけを収集する仕組みになっているので、この流れは暫く変わらないだろう。ただ、個人的に思うのは、もし皆が自分と同じ考え方だとしたら、それは何とつまらない世界なのだろう、と私は思う。人が旅をするのは、自らと違う文化の国や異なる環境にある土地や風景を見たいからだ。世界は多様性が溢れているからこそ面白いのだ。だから、世界の多様性を知ることこそが人生を豊かにする秘訣だと私は信じている。願わくばこれからも人々が多様性を認め、違いを楽しめる世界でありますように。

The Kansai–Osaka Expo has come to an end. Although it faced criticism early on, visitor numbers grew in the latter half, and overall it can be considered a success. I visited in October, and even on a weekday the venue was packed with people rushing to see the exhibits before closing. Many pavilions had entry restrictions due to the crowds, but I managed to enter the French Pavilion, which was my main goal. Still, I wish I could have explored more if the lines had been shorter.
A total of 158 countries and regions participated in the Expo, each bringing its own culture under the grand roof ring. That, to me, is the true wonder of a world exposition — a living embodiment of diversity. Today, even as people speak loudly about inclusion, divisions deepen, and social media further isolates us in our own bubbles. Yet, if everyone thought the same way, how dull the world would be! We travel precisely to see places and cultures different from our own. The world is fascinating because it overflows with diversity — and I believe that embracing this richness is what makes life truly fulfilling. May we continue to celebrate and enjoy our differences.
