春休みに神戸を家族旅行で訪れた。以前に訪れたのは20年以上前でその時は結婚前の妻とだった。あれから20年が経ち、同じ場所を家族で訪れるのは感慨深いものがあった。神戸観光では異人館が有名なので今回も訪れた。私も妻も英国留学の経験があるので英国館は外せない。20年前とは違い、館のテーマがシャーロック・ホームズ一色になっていて時の流れを感じた。他にもオランダ館ではオリジナルの香水が作れるということだったので、娘が香水を作ることにした。アンケートに答えて15分ほどで自分だけの香りが出来上がった。柑橘系の爽やかな香りで娘もご機嫌だった。
私は娘が大好きなので、その娘の香りを覚えておきたいと思った。ただ、当たり前のことだが香りは記録できないのだ。私は写真を撮るのが好きだが、その根底にあるのは旅先の美しい風景や日々の愛おしい瞬間を忘れないように記録しておきたいという願いだ。しかし、写真や動画では視覚、聴覚の記録はできるが、嗅覚、触覚、味覚の思い出は心に記憶をするしかない。忘れたくないのにカメラでは写せないことに、少し切なさを感じた出来事だった。
